Description
Classic chow mein vs lo mein – two takeout favorites made easy at home. Pick your texture: crispy or saucy.
Ingredients
8 oz Chinese egg noodles
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
1/4 cup scallions, chopped
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
1. Boil noodles until tender (for lo mein) or soak briefly (for chow mein)
2. In a wok, heat oil and sauté garlic
3. Add vegetables and stir-fry 2–3 minutes
4. Add noodles and toss
5. For chow mein, let noodles crisp in pan without stirring
6. Add sauces and stir to combine
7. Top with scallions and serve
Notes
Chow mein requires less liquid sauce to maintain crisp texture
Lo mein can use more sauce for a glossy finish
Use the same noodles, just change the technique
